The design of neighborhood parks, landscape perception, place attachment, and community development are closely related, influencing each other and shaping the appearance and development direction of cities and communities. The design of neighborhood parks is not only about providing recreational spaces but also an essential part of the urban green space system. A well-designed and functional park can enhance the quality of life of residents and strengthen their sense of belonging and identity to the community. Landscape perception is influenced by park design, reflecting people's perception and evaluation of their surroundings. Place attachment emphasizes residents' emotional connection and identity with their living area. A good neighborhood park design can promote and strengthen place attachment.
Neighborhood park design is closely related to community development. A park that meets the needs of the community and promotes resident interaction and healthy living contributes to comprehensive community development. Therefore, the relationship between park design, landscape perception, place attachment, and community development needs to be fully considered in urban planning to achieve sustainable development of cities and communities.
This study focuses on Tainan City, targeting park users as survey subjects. Four hundred questionnaires were distributed face-to-face, with 382 valid responses collected. Data were analyzed and discussed using statistical methods. The research results are as follows: Using structural equation modeling analysis, the results show that park design, landscape perception, and place attachment directly or indirectly influence community development. "Park design" needs to influence "community development" through "landscape perception" and "place attachment," indicating a mediating effect between park design and community development.
When planning community development, park design and landscape perception are equally important. As part of the community's public space, park design directly affects residents' perception and evaluation of the community. A well-designed and beautiful park can enhance landscape perception, increasing residents' sense of belonging and comfort. However, before park design, enhancing place attachment is more critical. Place attachment refers to residents' emotional connection and identity with their living area. Only when residents feel a strong sense of belonging and identity with their community will they care more about its development and actively participate in community affairs, promoting comprehensive community development. Therefore, enhancing place attachment is a crucial prerequisite for achieving community development goals. Park design, landscape perception, and place attachment are inseparable and should be equally emphasized in community development planning. Through reasonable design and management, the healthy development of the community can be promoted.
Park design, landscape perception, and place attachment are three indispensable elements for community development. They are interrelated and mutually influential. In community development planning, equal importance should be placed on these three aspects to jointly promote the community towards a healthier and more harmonious direction.
