本研究創作從生活中的經驗出發,透過互動藝術創作《Not Your Taste》,探討人際互動中語言對話所產生的情緒落差,聚焦於「說出口的」與「被感受到的」之間的差距。創作探索三個研究課題:語言情緒是否能透過具身化感知?味覺是否為情緒轉譯媒介?觀眾是否能反思語言後果與理解落差?以網路論壇語言作為媒介,探索科技藝術於情緒議題中的實踐可能,透過參與式互動設計,將抽象情緒轉譯為可品嘗的茶飲體驗,以感官作為促進共感的媒介。
為奠定創作基礎,研究回顧了味覺與情緒的神經科學關聯、認知語言學中的味覺隱喻理論,以及純文字溝通的限制與網路語言的特殊性。味覺不僅為基本生理感官,亦與情緒處理、記憶與社會連結密切相關,並在不同文化中具有情感投射與隱喻功能。情緒具備多維與光譜特性,而純文字交流因缺乏副語言與非語言線索,常導致情緒理解落差。此外,隨著自然語言處理技術的發展,語言情緒可透過演算法量化分析,為跨感官轉譯提供可行途徑。作品案例方面,Rafael Lozano-Hemmer 的《Subtitled Public》示範了語言具身化與錯位策略,Sophie Calle 的《Take Care of Yourself》揭示語言多重詮釋的主觀性,李明維的《Afternoon Tea with Lee Mingwei》則展現味覺作為人際連結媒介的潛力與關係美學介入作為情境互動基礎的可能性,三者共同啟發了本創作的感官轉譯策略。
在創作行動上以四個行動層次建構《Not Your Taste》的體驗流程。行動一「點單」模擬手搖飲店點餐情境,引導觀眾選取或輸入網路留言,經歷三代系統迭代,從單純選句到兼顧主動留言與消費意象,提升情緒參與感。行動二「茶飲」建立情緒分類與味覺隱喻對應,結合 NLP 分析與自建嫉妒偵測模型,將情緒比例轉換為酸、甜、苦、辣、鹹、中性六位味比例,並映射至食材配置。行動三「品茶」透過泡茶的儀式化操作,引導觀眾在感官與身體參與中體驗語言情緒。行動四「茶室」以空間設計與動線安排,營造沉浸式社交場域,使參與者在互動中深化反思。
探索結果獲得,味覺作為感官媒介能有效承載與觸發情緒共鳴,並藉由跨感官轉譯模型與儀式流程的結合,強化觀眾對語言情緒後果的覺察與理解。本創作在技術整合、感官隱喻應用與互動設計上,建立了一套從語言到味覺的轉譯機制,並在展覽實踐中引發觀眾對網路語言與人際互動的再思考。研究亦反思了情緒翻譯背後的語言責任,指出情緒不僅是可被理解的心理狀態,更可成為具體、可感知、可共感的存在。未來將持續探索跨感官藝術於情緒議題中的應用可能,並拓展至更多文化語境與互動模式。
This work explores the emotional gaps in interpersonal interaction, focusing on the discourse of online forums and semi-anonymous digital communication. The project investigates whether abstract emotions expressed in language can be embodied through sensory translation and whether gustation can serve as a medium for empathy. Using ritualized interaction design, the interactive artwork Not Your Taste translated textual input into drinkable tea. The system was structured around four sequential actions—Ordering, Tea Preparation, Tea Tasting, and Tea Room. Forum-derived text was analyzed using natural language processing tools, including the Google Natural Language API, a Hugging Face multi-emotion model, and a custom jealousy classifier. Outputs were normalized in Python and mapped to gustatory profiles informed by Russell’s circumplex model of affect and research on gustatory metaphors. These mappings were then converted into tangible recipes linked to specific ingredients. The final installation invited participants to “drink” the emotions in their chosen text, revealing how ritual and symbolism can make abstract feelings tangible and prompting reflection on online language and its interpersonal consequences.
