In many factors of effecting logistics performance, logistics capability is the most important factor because the level of logistics capability will determine logistics performance. And the capability is decided by employees - the human resource. The employees having excellent abilities could promote logistics capabilities and bring competitive advantages for companies. Thus, the company should implement many suitable human resource practices to improve employees’ capabilities. In the literature, however, little has been done to address the issue about the relation of human resource practices and logistics. Therefore, this study attempt to fill the gap in the literature by reviewing the previous studies to identify the factors that affect logistics performance and by examining proposed hypotheses through an empirical study. The main purpose of this study is to explore the relationship of human resource practices, logistics capabilities, and logistics performance and to the mediating factor of human resource practices and logistics performance.
The study population included all listed companies in manufacturing industry. A total of 1062 questionnaires were hand delivered and 128 of them were returned. Of the returned questionnaires, 19 were incomplete and the remaining 109, valid and complete, were used for quantitative analysis. The useable response rate was 10.26%.
The major finding of this study include: First, suitable human resource practices can promote logistics capabilities and the logistics capabilities can raise the supply chin performance. Second, logistics capabilities are the mediating factor of the relationship of human resource practices and logistics performance. According to the results, companies should invest and implement suitable HR practices to employees to raise logistics capabilities and performance.
