Amidst the intricate tapestry of migration and conflict in Türkiye, this thesis undertakes a comprehensive exploration of sustainable urban development in Reyhanlı. Utilising a multi-stage approach, it delves into spatial planning strategies, and integration policies. This thesis illustrates a methodology for improving current vocational training systems and providing well-designed street spaces for economic activities for trainees into the labour market. The pivotal aim is to create an inclusive urban development that fosters economic revitalization and social integration.
Drawing upon a synthesis of global perspectives and local insights, the research seeks to propose transformative solutions tailored to Reyhanlı’s context. Through rigorous analysis and synthesis, this study aims to offer not only theoretical contributions but also pragmatic resources. By navigating the complex interplay of migration dynamics, urban development, and integration policies, it aspires to provide actionable practice that tackle social issues through spatial planning.
The further goal is to pave the way for Reyhanlı and other cities facing similar challenges to cultivate inclusive, resilient, and thriving urban environments. In doing so, this thesis not only sheds light on the specific challenges and opportunities present in Reyhanlı but also contributes to the broader discourse on urban resilience and migration-sensitive planning.
By offering a nuanced understanding of the intersection between migration, conflict, urban planning, and integration policy, it seeks to advance knowledge and inform evidence-based decision-making. Ultimately, this research endeavours to serve as a guidance for policymakers, planners, and practitioners grappling with similar issues globally. By distilling lessons learned and best practices, it aims to empower cities to navigate the complexities of migration while fostering inclusive, sustainable, and vibrant urban communities.
