This study proposed a stuffed-animal companion robot for stressed people. We have five major requirements: the soft quality of robot surface, the type of stuffed animal, a sleeping motion imitating a sleeping pet, heat function and user personalization. A bear-shaped robot was designed and implemented. It was sewn by flannel cloth by hand. The sleeping and heating mechanisms were placed in its back and belly and a RGB LED was placed in its tail. There are two scenarios: (1) When a user hugs it, the Companion Robot gives warmth and (2) When a user puts it horizontally, the Companion Robot sleeps like a pet and turns on different colors of LED depending on the user’s touching habits.
Moreover, the Companion Robot has three features: First, the difficulties of designing a stuffed-animal combined with the deployment of internal mechanism are overcome; Second, the robot emulates the dynamic sleeping state of an animal as responses; Eventually, the robot provides warmth to emulate the body temperature of animals like alive.
