空間的塑造是實虛體的經營。不同的經營方式使得空間呈現不同的樣貌。大自然中的「蘭」與「石」具有不同的美學特徵，蘭葉之美著重於實體形式表現，太湖石則以其虛體結構見長。
本研究之目的在嘗試透過對自然對象的研究，找尋其構成基因及美學特徵，研擬融合「蘭」與「石」特徵之設計方法，以建議一種新的實虛體關係，進而協助空間創作。
由於「蘭」與「石」有著不同的美學特徵，研究也以不同的方式進行：蘭花取其葉形，用其實體形式之美；太湖石則側重於孔壑之虛體組織關係。在方法論上，以「石」為骨，以「蘭」為皮，試圖建立一兼具太湖石曲折虛體結構與蘭葉流暢優美形式的實虛體關係。
方法論的體現與演練透過一個「安平當代美術館」的設計練習來達成。

The making of space is the combination of the solid and the void. Different kinds of spatial configuration vary the characteristic of space. Orchid and rocks present dissimilar features, the shape of leaves and the void in holes.

This paper tries to propose a methodology leading to a new combination of the solids and the voids from discoveries of generative genes through series of interpretation of natural form. The aim of the methodology is to unite the characteristics and support spatial design.

Since the beauty of orchid and rock differs, the observation proceeds in differing ways. The methodology takes the shape of leaves as the ”skin” and the structure of holes as the “framework” to merge the dissimilar features.

At last, the methodology presents itself by the design practice, “An-pin Museum of Contemporary Arts.”
