Energy dissipation of a series of breakwaters built on a plenary beach for coastal protection through numerical simulations is investigated in this thesis. Previous studies on Bragg scattering of two-dimensional water waves propagating over a series of breakwaters are rare. In this paper, Bragg reflection of obliquely incident waves travelling over a series of breakwaters with different combinations is explored using Hsu and Wen (2001) EEMSE model. The numerical model was validated by laboratory experiments and good agreement was found. Several running cases were performed to look for an optimum criterion for practical applications. Numerical results were analyzed to clarify the influence parameters that may result in an optimal combination to enhance the bandwidth of Bragg resonance. A case study at Kung-Nan coast was conducted for the application of the designed procedure. The effectiveness was evaluated via sheltering parameter before and after the constuction of a series of breakwaters.
