This thesis mainly applies biological substrates to non-volatile resistive memory and utilizes a solution method to prepare organic materials as the insulator film in the metal-insulator-metal structure.
Therefore, the thesis is divided into two parts. The first part is the discussion of the manufacture of the gelatin substrate and its mechanical properties, to be the basis of the application for flexible electronics. The surface roughness (Rrms 2.42 nm), transmittance (91%), ultimate tensile stress (UTS) (84.1 MPa), bendability, and biodegradability, these properties offer the gelatin film great advantage to compete with the PET plastic to be the substrate for soft electronics.
The second part is the discussion of the organic non-volatile resistive memory fabricated onto the bio-cellulose film. The bio-cellulose film is taken from a facial mask for beauty care, which is transparent and stretchable. The fabrication is utilizing the silver paste exploited to the bottom electrode, and the gelatin insulator layer was formed by a spin-coating process without a vacuum process and then the aluminum (Al) top electrode is deposited by DC sputtering. It can be observed that has the characteristic of bipolar switching behavior, that the current on/off ratio could be up to 4 orders.
Because of its tightly interwoven bio-fibers and excellent swelling characteristics, it was designed to simulate human skin with temperature, moisture, oil, and salt. In this environment, the components can still achieve good electrical performance. Showing that the current on/off ratio could reach 3 orders and the retention time could remain 7400 seconds.
