This paper examines whether female directors in the boardroom have influences on corporate financial decisions and corporate performance. I find that female directors in the boardroom are negatively related to leverage, which is one of the corporate financial decisions examined in this work. However, I find that two other decisions, asset growth and debt issuance, are not related to female directors. Further, I find that female directors in the boardroom have positive influences on Tobin's Q. My results suggest that female directors can help to improve corporate performance possibly because they are more likely to be diligent and less overconfident in nature than male directors.
