當某種介質的介電常數與磁導係數皆為負值時,在新的定義底下,此介質的折射率也會是負值,稱為「負折射率材料」、「左手系材料」或「新穎材料」。本論文的主要工作在於求出在長波長極限下,平面波打在負折射率球的微分散射橫截面及散射橫截面方程式,並且針對左手系材料與一般材料進行比較。而在最後,我們假設散射材料的介電常數與磁導係數有 的特殊關係,在這樣的情況下我們求得負折射率材料散射橫截面的範圍,並與現有實驗結果做對照。
If a material, whose dielectric constant and magnetic permeability are both negative, its refraction index is also negative under the new definition. It is known as negative index materials (NIMs), Left-handed materials (LHM) or metamaterial. Our main work is finding out the scattering differential cross section and scattering cross section of NIMs sphere scattering by a plane wave, in the long wavelength limit. Then we compare Left-handed with ordinary materials. For the special case where the dielectric constant and magnetic permeability have the relationship of , we analyzed the ranges cross section NIMs, and compare with existing experiment results.
