目的：以往研究認為若有子女罹患精神分裂病的家屬容易出現心情低落、失眠、無望感與無助感等憂鬱症狀，然而近年來臨床觀察顯示新一代抗精神病藥物在治療重鬱症及精神分裂病患者身上都有不錯的效果，此二者是否有類似或重複的病因則有待證實。因此藉由家族研究的方式來探討重鬱症在精神分裂病家族間的盛行率是否較高，以進一步澄清精神分裂病與重鬱症的關係。
　方法：以南台灣某精神專科教學醫院中的精神分裂病患者及社區健康個案的父母親為研究對象，以M.I.N.I為評估工具，經一對一診斷性會談後確定診斷，再以卡方檢定比較此二組中重鬱症終身診斷盛行率的差異。
　結果：共收案精神分裂病患者的父母親277名，社區正常控制組的父母親174名，結果顯示精神分裂病患者與社區控制組的父母親之重鬱症盛行率並無顯著之差異（13.5% v.s 11.5%, x2=0.366, df=1, p=0.545）。
　結論：精神分裂病患者的一等親中，為主要照顧者並同住的父母並無較高的機會罹患重鬱症，故兩者間應無明顯的遺傳相關性存在。

　Purpose: Previous data has shown that some depressive symptoms are easily observed in the relatives of schizophrenic patients, including dysphoric mood, insomnia, hopelessness and helplessness. Recently, clinical observation shows that novel antipsychotic medications are effective in treating both affective disorder and schizophrenia. We want to clarify the relationship between these two illnesses with the incorporation of family studies.

　Method: In our study, we enrolled schizophrenic inpatients that were admitted into a psychiatry center located in southern Taiwan. The healthy probands came from one specific community in southern Taiwan. Complementary data was gathered through personal interviews and M.I.N.I.. The data, including subjects’ life-time diagnosis and sociodemographic characteristics, are analyzed with chi-square (X2).

　esult: We collected a total of 277 subjects and 174 subjects from parents of schizophrenic probands and community healthy probands, respectively. The results show that the prevalence rate of life-time diagnosis of major depression did not show a significant difference.

　Comment: The morbid risk of major depression is not significantly higher in first-degree relatives of schizophrenic patients. So, there was no genetic relationship found between schizophrenic patients and their parents with major depression.
