This research examines the factors contributing to fatigue among air force pilots through surveys and analysis. A total of 280 valid questionnaires were collected, investigating four dimensions: personal factors, workload, operational readiness, and interpersonal relationships. The study utilizes the Checklist Individual Strength (CIS) to assess personal fatigue intensity and understand the difference in fatigue before and after flights. Finally, in-depth interviews are conducted to gain empirical insights into the actual causes of fatigue. The main research objectives include: 1. Understanding the work situation of air force pilots, 2. Exploring the fatigue levels of air force pilots, 3. Investigating potential factors contributing to fatigue among air force pilots and providing references for subsequent research on flight fatigue issues.
Analysis reveals that over 50% of pilots have a regular sleep duration of less than 6 hours, indicating insufficient sleep and fatigue issues among pilots. However, data shows that there is no significant increase in fatigue levels after flights, suggesting that flying is not the primary factor causing fatigue for air force pilots. Among the analyzed fatigue factors, the "Personal Sleep and Work Situation" dimension has the greatest impact, followed by "Internal and External Communication and Coordination" and "Operational Readiness," indicating that factors such as physical condition, dual roles, and unplanned tasks may be the main contributors to fatigue. In the empirical analysis through interviews, it is found that the majority of reported fatigue scenarios involve lengthy meeting procedures, senior inspections, and paperwork, but there is no active mention of fatigue caused by flying itself. This indicates that pilots do not consider flying to be the main factor contributing to fatigue, and factors such as physical condition, lengthy meeting procedures, senior inspections, and paperwork may have a greater impact on fatigue among air force pilots.
