Within the knowledge economy era, knowledge is a basic and important asset in firm daily operation. Social network is a vital channel for firm to arrange knowledge activities. In order to improve firm performance, adding organizational learning will accelerate knowledge activities via social network. And strategy flexibility has the same function to benefit firm performance.
Base on social network theory, organizational learning theory and strategy flexibility theory perspectives. This study attempts to explore the relationships of social network and firm R&D performance. Then, proposed to test the moderating effects of organizational learning and strategy flexibility between social network and firm R&D performance.
Using multiple regression analysis, this study analyzes data from 90 firms. The results indicate the following evidence. Firstly, social network is benefit firm R&D performance. Secondly, organizational learning contributes to improve the firm R&D performance base on instrumental social network. Thirdly, task flexibility is benefit firm R&D performance base on instrumental social network. That means, organizational learning and strategy flexibility play mediating role among instrumental social network and firm R&D performance.
Finally, this study also provides some research and managerial implication, suggestion, and research limitation for the future academic and practical efforts.
