Playing is essential for children in their daily life. The storytelling activity in children’s play enhances their creativity, imagination, and social skill. In this research, “DigiTalk,” a sharing system of digital storytelling was designed for children to create stories with their peers in school and share the stories with their family or friends.
The purpose of this research was to allow children to learn how to create story with game-based learning in order to promote their interest and achievement in storytelling, and to enhance the interaction and relationship between people through cooperation and sharing stories.
The observation was conducted to understand the current states of performing art course in the elementary school with the guidance of the course being the reference of system design. The in-depth interviews with elementary school teachers were conducted to confirm the requirements and problems of storytelling, and the design principles were decided to implement the system. The processes of DigiTalk were story selection, characters introduction, scenes maker, and story performing.
The system test was adopted to validate and evaluate the system. The result revealed that children can express excellent spontaneity, cognitive spontaneity, and manifest joy during the digital storytelling game and that children were willing to play DigiTalk and share story in the future.
