Marijuana use among adolescents is a common issue in the United States. This study aimed to find the associations with the parental attachment, school attachment, commitment, perceived risk, attitude toward marijuana and marijuana use among the 12th grade students. The study analyzed the data derived from Monitoring the Future released by ICPSR in 2016.

The major findings are as follows: (1) School attachment has a positive and direct effect on attitude toward marijuana;(2) Commitment has a positive and direct effect on attitudes toward marijuana;(3) Parental attachment has a negative and direct effect on marijuana use; (4) School attachment has a negative and direct effect on marijuana use;(5) Perceived risk mediates the relationship between parental attachment and marijuana use;(6) Perceived risk mediates the relationship between school attachment and marijuana use; (7) Perceived risk mediates the relationship between commitment and marijuana use; (8) Attitude toward marijuana mediates the relationship between school attachment and marijuana use; (9) Attitude toward marijuana mediates the relationship between commitment and marijuana use. Suggestions for further work in this field and limitations of this study were also discussed.
