本研究目的在探討中文網路溝通情境中的情緒表達。主要研究的方向包括:(1)探索在中文網路溝通中的情緒表達方式,(2)分析網路溝通中各種情緒表達方式所使用的頻率,以及(3)研究彌補社會線索不足所使用的語言技巧。本研究收集的585筆語料來自批踢踢電子佈告欄(PTT BBS)中的討論板,主要參與對象為高中生及大學生。運用缺乏線索假說及社會訊息處理論做為理論基礎,並採用內容分析法進行語料分析,探討各筆語料的意義及用法,並且歸納出網路溝通中的情緒表達對語言使用及人際關係的影響。
研究結果顯示,在網路溝通中的情緒表達包括以下八種方式:(1)擬聲語、 (2)情緒動詞、(3)情緒形容詞及名詞、(4)括號策略、(5)禁忌語、(6)表情符號、(7)語尾助詞及(8)感嘆詞。其中最常被使用的為情緒符號(49.6%),其次是語尾助詞(35.3%)、感嘆詞(5.0%)、擬聲語(3.7%)、禁忌語(1.9%)、括號策略(1.7%)及情緒動詞(1.7%),而最不常被使用的是形容詞及名詞的情緒表達(1.1%)。
網友運用不同的語言技巧來彌補網路溝通中社會線索的不足,包括創意字,如同音異義字、重疊字及新詞,跨語言的使用以及口語化的書寫方式。由於網路匿名的特性,網友能安心的在網路溝通情境中抒發自身的情緒。同時,網路溝通突破了時間及空間的限制,也讓網友們能自由的表達自己的情緒。另一方面,網路溝通中錯字的使用將對網路使用者的中文構詞及語意能力造成負面性的影響。另外對網路虛擬世界的沈迷將縮小網路使用者在現實中的交際圈並減低他們的溝通能力,進而影響其人際關係。
This study aims to explore emotional expressions in Chinese computer-mediated communication (CMC), and there are three main goals in this research. First, to investigate the ways used for expression of emotions in CMC. Second, to examine the frequency of each strategy used for emotional communication in CMC. Finally, to explore the linguistic strategies applied to supplement the lack of social presence. There were 585 topics collected from the discussion board of a popular Chinese BBS, PTT, and the topics were discussed in September, 2007. Moreover, the main participants were senior high school students and university students from Taiwan. I adopted Reduced Social Cues Theory and Social Information Processing Model as the referential theories in data analysis. Also, content analysis was used to analyze the meaning and usage of the discourse and probe the influences of emotional expression in CMC on language use and human relationship.
The results show that there are eight ways for people to declare their emotions on the Internet, including (1) onomatopoeia, (2) verbs with emotions, (3) adjectives and nouns for emotions, (4) emotions in parentheses, (5) taboo words, (6) emoticons, (7) final particles, and (8) interjections. Among the ways of emotional expression in CMC, the most frequently used way is emoticons (49.6%), followed by final particles (35.3%), interjections (5.0%), onomatopoeia (3.7%), taboo words (1.9%), emotions in parentheses (1.7%), and verbs with emotions (1.7%). The least frequently used way is adjectives and nouns for emotions (1.1%).
People online use linguistic strategies to supplement the shortage of nonverbal cues in CMC, including creative words as homophones, reduplication and coinages, the mixture of different languages and the use of spoken written style. Furthermore, online users feel comfortable and safe to express their emotions with anonymity in CMC. Also, without the limitation of time and space zones, online chatters communicate their emotions freely. On the other hand, the wrong words may influence negatively in online users’ morphological and semantic concepts. Moreover, the addiction to the Internet virtual world may narrow down people’s social interaction circle and degrade their communication ability in the real world.
