「過渡地帶 transition zone」最早由社會學家伯吉斯(Ernest Burgess)提出，用以解釋社會階層於都市內的分布模型，後成為多個學科中基礎且廣泛的概念，在生物學中被描述為細胞、神經在兩個環境之間轉換時產生變化的區域；地理學中被描述為商業區與工業區之間功能混雜且變動劇烈的區域。過渡地帶具有動態性、複雜性、多樣性，各學科在研究不同系統的邊界、轉變以及互動時，都會提及「過渡地帶」的概念。鐵路作為都市空間的人為屏障，周圍地區產生了空間斷裂、功能混亂等狀態。臺南鐵路地下化的完工在即，加速都市縫合的同時，也創造了都市-校園間的都市過渡地帶。

本研究以臺南市區鐵路地下化為契機，觀察鐵路周邊的社區、基礎設施邊界及成功大學的校園邊界，進行三個對都市邊界的研究 :
1. 臺南市區鐵路周邊的社區邊界
2. 前導基礎設施的邊界
3. 成功大學校園與都市的邊界

在都市邊界的研究後，紀錄臺南都市空間分別對應鐵路地下化的非正式-類正式-正式的治理策略及空間狀態，並基於研究結果提出「都市過渡地帶」的設計概念。並以社會影響力債券的運作機制為基礎模型，探討空間透過此機制債券化的可能性，並提出空間依循社會影響力債券的運作機制以及透過此平台，空間產生機能、時間、使用者、容積流動的情境模擬。進而創造模糊且動態游移的都市-校園邊界，符合成大校園規劃的願景與目標。

The concept of the Transition Zone was first proposed by sociologist Ernest Burgess to explain the spatial distribution of social classes within cities. It later became a fundamental concept across various disciplines. In biology, it describes areas where cells or nerves change when transitioning between environments; in geography, it refers to zones of functional mixing and rapid change between commercial and industrial districts. Transition zones are dynamic, complex, and diverse. Scholars often use this concept to study boundaries, transformations, and interactions within different systems. Railways, as artificial urban barriers, have caused spatial fragmentation and functional disorder in their surroundings. The completion of the Tainan railway underground project not only accelerates urban integration but also creates an urban transition zone between the city and the university campus.

This study uses the Tainan railway underground project as a starting point to examine the communities around the railway, infrastructural boundaries, and the campus boundary of National Cheng Kung University, conducting three main studies on urban boundaries:
1. Community boundaries around the Tainan railway.
2. Boundaries of key infrastructure.
3. The boundary between National Cheng Kung University and the city.

After analyzing these boundaries, the study documents Tainan's spatial governance strategies—informal, semi-formal, and formal—in response to the undergrounding project, and proposes a design concept for an "urban transition zone." Using social impact bonds as a model, it explores the potential for spatial securitization, simulating scenarios where space facilitates the flow of functions, time, users, and floor area. Ultimately, this approach aims to create a flexible and dynamic urban-campus boundary aligned with the vision of National Cheng Kung University's campus planning.
