發源自十九世紀伊朗的巴哈伊信仰（Baha’i Faith / Baha’ism）是承繼自什葉伊斯蘭Shaykhi學派與巴比信仰（Babism）的信仰社群，由伊朗宗教學者Baha’u’llah所建立。1853年，該社群在嘎賈爾朝政權（The Qajars, 1785－1925）與什葉宗教學者（Ulema）打壓之下被迫離散（Diaspora），並逐步地形成全球性的宗教。二十世紀初，巴哈伊信仰進入中國，由於中國連年戰亂，使得教務發展不易。1949年，中國的巴哈伊社群隨同國民黨軍隊遷徙進入臺灣。1953年，巴哈伊領袖Rabbani在新德里洲際會議指示曾在中國傳道的蘇洛曼夫婦（The Suleimanis）赴臺發展教務，為巴哈伊信仰在臺灣發展之始。巴哈伊社群在台初期受到國民政府先後打壓，傳道困難直到解嚴後方能順利宣教。社群在臺灣發展形成在地化的現像，突顯臺灣巴哈伊信仰特色。本論文試就巴哈伊信仰的成立、離散、傳入臺灣及在臺教務發展探討之，並以1954－2017期間為研究歷史軸。

“Baha’ism” is the branch faith of Shi’ah Islam, and originated from the theological thought of Shaykhi school and the movement of Babism. It was founded by Iranian Sufi Shaykh Baha’u’llah in the 19th century. In the year of 1853, the Qajar government and the Shi‘i Ulama suppressed Baha’ism, forced the followers to exile abroad, and thus formed its diasporic community around the world. In the early 20th century, Baha’i pioneers migrated to China. Due to the long-term war in China, the missionary work faced many difficulties and almost failed. In 1949, the Chinese Baha’is followed the KMT government withdrawing to Taiwan. The leader of Baha’i community Shoghi Effendi Rabbani designated the Suleiman family as missionary to Taiwan after the Fourth Intercontinental Conference in New Delhi in 1953. This is the beginning of the Baha’ism to preach officially in Taiwan. This essay attempts to explore the Baha’i diasporic community history from Iran to Taiwan by examining all sorts of sources. Besides, field work is also conducted to supplement the shortage of original materials. On top of the community history, this essay will also discuss localization of Baha’ism in Taiwan.
