Storytelling is a method of communication that often applied to record and express personal experiences. It enables people to preserve, share and reflect on life experiences and it is easier for information transferring. However, not everyone has enough skills of storytelling so we expect to help novices to share personal experiences by storytelling easier. This paper focuses on using drawing to share personal experiences to facilitate the creation of narratives. In this work, we implemented and designed an online platform called Paiiiint and put to the practical use on Facebook (http://apps.facebook.com/paiiiint/). Paiiiint provides users with opportunities to create narratives by drawing. By the features of information sharing and social interaction on Facebook, Paiiiint enables users to create and share contents of stories with friends who have common interests and similar experiences to build up their own social interaction.
In this paper, through observations and interviews with the users on the platform, we explored (1) Utilizing the four-frame comics as the story structure, it helps story creators to control the flow of stories. Furthermore, it is also easier for story viewers to understand the implications of the stories. (2) Creating a story collaboratively with friends makes the story more interesting and richer than do it alone and it also makes users creating the contents of stories with higher expectation. (3) The process of making a chain story collaboratively can facilitate more interactions and communications between friends on Facebook to further enhance and strengthen their friendship. Paiiiint not only provides a platform to create narratives collaboratively but also makes users of online social network with opportunities to maintain existing relationships and establish new relationships.
