本論文是採用德州儀器公司出產之DM270系統單晶片作為研究與開發的主體,並於此嵌入式系統內,完成了MPEG-4壓縮標準的視訊編碼韌體系統之實現。由於MPEG-4視訊編碼系統的龐大與複雜程度,欲在嵌入式系統內以哈佛架構設計的DSP單元中發展,必須克服其記憶體使用的限制、晶片處理速度的不足及平行化排程的不易等問題。所以在系統設計的初期,先將視訊編碼套入一些更加有效率的演算法提升效能並減少記憶體的使用,接著以DM270系統單晶片內的共工處理器做加速,最後利用硬體與記憶體間可平行化的特性,達到快速編碼的目標。另外,本系統結合單晶片系統上的網路功能與MPEG-4視訊解碼器,實現一個可作居家監控亦可供個人娛樂之播放系統的遠端MPEG-4視訊監控暨娛樂播放平台。
In this thesis, we apply the DM270 System-on-a-Chip manufactured by Texas Instrument as skeleton in our research and development. We accomplished the firmware of a whole MPEG-4 simple profile video encoder in this embedded system. Because of enormous and complicated degree in MPEG-4 video encoder, if we want to develop on the embedded system’s DSP unit based on the Harvard structure, we have to overcome some problems, such as the memory’s limitation, the defect of chip’s process speed, and hardly parallelized, etc.. Therefore, in the very beginning of system’s design, we must change some algorithms into more efficient ones and cut the use of the memory in our video encoder. Then, we accelerate some video functions by the DM270’s coprocessors to reach higher efficiency. In the end, we take advantage of parallelized ability between memory and hardware to achieve the goal of fast encoding. Besides, our project combines network function and MPEG-4 video decoder on the DM270 into a whole new project: Network MPEG-4 home surveillance and entertaining video player.
