Does R&D alliance have relationship with CSR similarity? This study shows that there’re an unlined relationship between R&D alliance and CSR similarity. CSR is one of the critical issues in financial field recently, it can represent the culture, reputation, even the trust in organization. When firms establish R&D alliance, it can use CSR as a criterion to choose their partner. However, CSR similarity has both advantages and disadvantages to alliance partnerships, especially in R&D field.
In this paper, I collect data from COMPUSTAT, CRSP, SDC to obtain the financial information, and use KLD to get the CSR score in each category in firms. I use combined abnormal return as dependent variable, and use CSR similarity as an independent variable to test hypothesis. In addition, the different industry also has relationship with CSR similarity. When the partners are more similar, it may increase the chance to cooperate; yet, it might also decrease the ability of creativity and innovation. Opposite situation to those not similar partners is.
To sum up, I find R&D alliance has likelier inverted-U shape relationship with CSR similarity. Additionally, the different industry of alliance partners also has a relationship with CSR similarity. Especially, according to the statics result, it might exist a two peaks graph between R&D alliance and CSR similarity, it can be extended in future research.
