A 4x4 array-wavelength grating (AWG) with multiple tunable fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) is presented to realize an unlimited multi-channels reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer (ROADM) node. By using the AWG interleaving wavelength characteristic, the proposal employs the tunable FBGs, which can modulate a wide range of Bragg wavelength without overlapping and/or interfering the spectra of the other channels signal, to carry out the add-drop function. Moreover, the AWG cycle wavelength property can be applied to process multiple channels signal beyond the number of AWG channels. The heater with microcomputer-controlling technique is realized to precisely modulate the Bragg wavelength for proving the shift of the Bragg wavelengths. As a result, a ROADM based on the AWG and multiple tunable FBGs has successfully added and dropped the multi-channels beyond the number of AWG channel.
