The existing literature verifies the positive relationship between trade openness and economic growth. We attempt to adopt different measures of trade openness to investigate the relationship between trade openness and economic growth. These measures are: trade dependency ratio, the export share in GDP, the import share in GDP, tax rates on imports, tax rates on exports, and the ratio of tax revenues on trade to real trade. Based on endogenous growth models, we observe the relationships between trade openness and economic growth. Moreover, we are interested in how an increase in government expenditure affects economic growth. Some interesting results are found:

    1. Based on different indicators of trade openness, the exact relationship between trade openness and growth does not exist.

    2. Not only trade openness but also relevant factors affect economic growth. Economic growth benefited from human capital and technology much more than from physical capital.

    3. An increase in government expenditure does not necessarily stimulate economic growth, depending on different financing tools.
