This article aims to explore if the diversity between teammates affects team performance in eSports teams of League of Legends and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Using player in-game performance data and player’s nationality and Hofstede's cultural dimen-sions index to create the indicators that reflect the skill diversity, language diversity, and cultural diversity, this article uses multiple regression models for empirical analysis.

This study finds that the impact of diversity on game team performance is complicated. Although there is no statistically significant difference in rewards between single nation-ality teams and multi-nationality teams, the impact of different aspects of diversity on team performance does exist.

Diversity that reflects game skill in a CS:GO team can have a significant impact on team performance. No strong evidence of an effect of language diversity on team performance was found in either game. The increased diversity of individualism dimension within the CS:GO team will significantly improve team performance; while controlling the size of the average team culture index and the skewed form of team composition, the increase in diversity in the long-term orientation dimension of the CS:GO team will significantly improve team performance. The skewed form of the CS:GO team's cultural dimension has a significant impact on team performance. Compared with League of Legends teams, CS:GO teams may perform worse if the power distribution within the team is unequal; CS:GO teams may perform better if they focus more on the tasks of their role.
