Production orders are not based simply on quality and price under the conditions of greater global competition, but also on the speedy development of new products, rapid mass production, and quick responses to the demands of the market and individual customers. In the liquid-crystal display (TFT_LCD) industry, companies must be more proactive with regard to new product development projects. A successful project will make a company more competitive and enable it to increase revenues, and this can be achieved by considering both the internal and external environments, as well as the available technology and resources, through a process of systematic project management.
This study examines the impact of and satisfaction with the results of new product development projects from the perspective of organizational culture and key performance indicators (KPI). Companies can improve the performance of their new product development projects by exploring the reasons behind the results of this work.
With regard to organizational culture, the results show that if a company makes the work more team-oriented, the project performance will be improved. However, the project members surveyed in this study did not think that their company had made the work atmosphere more team-oriented or conducive to innovation. With regard to KPI, the results of the regression analysis show that higher general KPI have a positive impact on project performance. However, the project members surveyed in this work stated that there were significant gaps with regard to the non-quantifiable indicators between actual project performance and awareness, such as technological innovation and customer satisfaction. Companies should thus develop better measurements to assess such non-quantitative indicators, as this will improve the performance of new product development projects through systematic project management.
