隨著資訊科技的蓬勃發展,圖書館的服務模式逐漸走向電子化、資訊化的服務方式。目前包括圖書資訊的管理及使用者資訊服務都是逐漸走向電腦化,因此使用者如何透過電腦取得圖書館相關的服務,變成圖書館的一大挑戰。傳統的圖書館資訊提供都是以區域方式來配置服務資源並提供服務,但是如何運用這些資源取得需要的資訊,變成大部分不熟悉圖書館環境的使用者最大的困擾。
由於軟/硬體技術、無線通訊技術的日漸成熟,無線網路的應用逐漸朝向多元化。無線設備具備移動性及隨時連線的特性,使用者可以隨時取得需要的資訊,且由於使用者經常移動於不同基地台,可以得知使用者目前的位置。目前利用無線網路位置資訊所產生的相關研究包括《與位置有關之服務》及《依據位置而提供之服務》等,統稱適地性服務(Location Based Service)。
本研究藉由提供特定地域性的無線網路服務,對圖書館提供適地性服務,除提供傳統網路的內容服務,並進一步針對使用者現在位置,自動提供使用者所在位置及附近區域的相關服務資訊,讓隱藏環境中的電腦服務資訊自動傳遞給使用者,打破傳統圖書館與讀者之間的藩籬,節省讀者尋找資訊的時間並增加讀者對圖書館資源的認識,以達到圖書館資訊傳遞之目的。
With the booming of the technique development in information science, many libraries have gone electronically, in both user management and book information. How to reduce users’ hassles in finding the right information, either for books or electronic resources, becomes a big challenge to modern libraries. Traditional libraries usually provide catalog information at a central point and, unfortunately, the same thing still happens to most of the current computerized libraries. Users usually have to surf through pages and pages to get what they want. The service is passive.
With the advance of wireless network technology, people now have the chances to access crucial information whenever and wherever. Although many libraries have made use of this state of the art information retrieval technique, most of them simply set up wireless networking facilities without any service oriented applications. Users may move freely in a large library building but wireless base stations can pick up their signals to know their exact positions. Thus, systems could have been made to change the roles of libraries from passive to active in providing readers with information in the right time and at the right place, i.e. with location based services.
This research is to create value-added applications by using location sensitive services of a wireless network. In addition to provide traditional content services via web pages, these applications will also provide adequate services associated with current position of a user. This automatically pushing of the related services in a user’s nearby region reduces the waste of the time of a reader in searching desired resources. The active, instead of passive, service features also help readers in understanding the library resources a lot.
