本篇論文針對的非裔美籍女性藝術家費絲‧林枸《法國集影》系列是以拼布為基底,結合圖像與文字的故事布繪作品。貫串此作的非裔美籍女主角離開家鄉美國,她來到十九世紀末二十世紀初現代藝術蓬勃的歐洲巴黎,在敘事性的虛構故事中,與現代藝術巨匠和跨時空出現的非裔美籍各領域人士互動。筆者將從圖像分析《法國集影》揭露性別與族裔的雙重政治運作,此系列藉諧擬現代藝術圖像暴露其中的霸權,轉而呈現出黑人女性不同於西方藝術史白人男性中心的差異觀點。作品中女主角則藉著主動的擬仿策略,使她踰越性別、種族界線躋身成為藝術家。同時筆者探討《法國集影》使非裔美籍經驗成為另類的中心,使非裔美籍女性成為表述的主體,在女主角個人的生命歷程回憶中凝聚與繼承族群歷史,加強母系的傳承,召喚非裔美籍女性觀者的認同。透過本論文的撰寫,筆者將突顯《法國集影》對比出具鬆動正典權威感的效果,以及對非裔文化根源認同的自我價值重建。
This paper treats The French Collection of Faith Ringgold, an African-American female artist. The French Collection is a series of story quilts, combining images and texts, and is painted on the quilt. The heroin throughout this series left her hometown, the United States, for Paris, where the modern art is at its blooming era during the years around the borderline of the nineteenth and the twentieth centuries. In this narrative fiction, she encountered with great masters of modern art and also with African-American figures of all domains coming from different times. I will try to deduce that The French Collection uncovers the double political economy between gender and race by means of image analyses. This series parodies the images in modern art to reveal the masculine-centric hegemony of the White, and transfers to a Black-female’s point of view. The heroin in The French Collection eventually trans- gressed the racial and gender barriers to become an artist by actively taking initiative policy of mimicry. Besides, in this essay I will discuss the alteration of the center expressed in The French Collection, which focuses on the African-American experiences. The African-American heroin is the subject of the narration, her life bears the whole history of the Black and strengthens the maternal inheritance, both of which interpellates the identification of the African-American female spectators. The author will accentuate the artistic effect of contrast in the French Collection, and how it shakes canon. An attention will also be paid to the subject of maternal inheritance of the African culture and the reestablishment of self-evaluation in this series.
