台灣西南沿海地區自荷據時期以來，為漢族祖先最早移民開墾的地區，隨著地域環境的差異，而造就聚落中特有的空間組織模式與民宅類型，尤其是位於高雄外海岸外沙洲的紅毛港地區，在過去300年來歷經環境的演變與當地文化價值的發展等種種因素之下，交織出港埠聚落獨特的人文風貌，然而在現今的空間體系卻因政策的改變，使得傳統聚落空間與建築型式正逐漸的凋零消失。有鑑於此，本研究試圖以田野調查方式，經過實地的踏勘、訪談與測繪並與相關史料文獻的比對後，並由歸納與類比的方法，探討聚落整體之空間體系，同時對合院民宅群簇間的組合方式以及合院民宅構成的型態做深入的探討。

　　本研究內容有三項課題，其中包含：
1.聚落空間之基本構成：聚落的構成關係，大體而言，包括聚落四周的交通動線與內部的巷道系統、公共設施以及民宅單元的區位關係與分布情況。因此透過對聚落空間的構成與座向佈局的關係，有助於建構紅毛港聚落民宅空間的發展脈絡。
2.合院民宅之簇群組合：傳統合院民宅的簇群關係，必然遵循一定空間文法，建立起內部組織的使用機制。然而隨著地域環境的不同、經濟條件的發展程度與宅第使用性質的差異而有不同的構成方式。就一個位於台灣西南沿海以沙洲地形所構成民宅組織而言，與其他內陸地區的聚落組織會有極大的差距；因此經由比對文獻資料與田野調查的結果，瞭解合院民宅簇群間排列組合的規則性，並透過歸納方法定義簇群組成的種類，推測聚落空間發展趨勢與土地利用情況。
3.合院民宅之空間構成：在歷經了重建、改建與增建後，住屋型態產生一系列規則性的轉變，尤其是聚落中的合院民宅更是呈現時代演替的關係。因此經由一定的推論方式，解析合院民宅類型的種類以及空間使用的方式，並進一步的探討其空間與型態之間的關係。

　　紅毛港聚落大致上發跡於荷據時期，到了日據時期由於漁業的興盛，使得人口急速的膨脹，加上人們對於土地以及住宅空間的需求，進而創造出現今聚落空間體系的雛形。然而隨著時代的進步與第二港口的開通，高雄市一躍成為國際的貨櫃轉運中心，但在土地政策的急速轉變下，使得面臨遷村命運的紅毛港，得以將原有的空間組織與民宅型式保留，對台灣西南沿海聚落的研究而言，留下一塊美麗的回憶。

　Form the Holland period, the south- western coast of Taiwan has become the main area where the Han immigrant settled. It make the settlements has it’s own spatial organization model and residential type though the difference of region environment. About all, In the past three hundred years, the Hong-Mao-Gang area located in the sandbank besides the Kaohsiung seaboard, go through the environments evolve, local culture develop and the change of the culture value and so on. The factors interweave the special culture style and features of seaboard settlements. However, today the space system is in the change of policy, the space organization and building types of traditional settlement have gone downhill. Therefore, we will research an integral of settlement space organization, the organization of street-house clustered and spatial compose of street-house at the same time. Through analyzing and inducing the data coming from field-investigation, interviewing, mapping and documentation-collection.

　The research is divided in to tree and outlined as follow:

1. The basic compose of settlement space
In general, the relationship of settlement compose includes transportation lines, lane system of inside, public facilities distribution and dwelling pattern. Form the morphology and locality relation, it establish the history of residential space about Hong-Mao-Gang settlement.

2. The organization of street-house clustered
The relationship of traditional street-house clustered must follow a space grammar, to establishing the inner organization of use rules. However, there are different compose way from dissimilar location environment, the develop degree of economical condition and different character of residence. in terms of residence organization, there will be an extremely difference between the compose from sandbank topography in south- western coast of Taiwan and other inland settlements. Therefore, through the result of the contrast between documents and field-investigation, we can get the ideal of the order in street-house clustered. According to the generalize method defining the clustered type, conjecture
space develop trend and condition of land used.

3. The spatial compose of street-house
The resident type brings a series regularity change result from rebuild, remodel and increase. Especially, street-house even more shows the relation of times evolution. Therefore, go through a regular inference either to analyzing the kind of street-house type and the method of space-used more researching the relationship between space and type.

　Hong-Mao-Gang settlement approximately rise form Holland colonial period. In Japanese colonial period, it creates the embryo of settlement organization nowadays that prosperous fishery promotes population explosion and people demanded for Land and dwelling. Kaohsiung city became the international container transport center from the time advance and the open-minded of second port. But in the change of land policy, we can keep the original space organization and residence type of Hong-Mao-Gang that is faced with destiny of village-moving. In term of settlement research in south- western coast of Taiwan, it stays a beautiful zone for memory.
