Green area is part of open space in urban area, which have contribution to improve quality of urban environment. Green area have many types such as park, urban forest, green belt and street greenery. Green area can provide better thermal comfort for human; improve air quality and mitigating urban heat island. Many researches about green area cooling effect prove these phenomena through differential of air temperature in green area and surrounding build area.
Research aim is to analyze and visualize field measurement data to have better comprehension about green area cooling effect to surrounding area. Study case is Tainan Park, one of wide green area in Tainan city, Taiwan. Tainan Park’s surrounding area are build up urban area, which functioned as commercial and residential area. This study case will indicate green area cooling effect phenomena through field measurement and analyst of thermal difference between park and its surrounding area. This research expected to explain about green area cooling effect phenomena that can influenced by weather factor.
Field measurement method in this research consist of traverse and fixed measurement. Traverse measurement method is collecting data with moving transportation mode such as bicycle. This bicycle equipped with ventilated meteorological sensor and become traverse tool. Fixed measurement method is collecting data in fixed point, which meteorological sensor mounted at electricity pole. Research conducted twice a month at daytime and nocturnal time, to obtain various data sample.
Research result shows that precise traverse measurement method is using ventilated sensor. Cooling effect area that calculated from temperature difference and distance range S curve consider as cooling effect that generated from green area to surrounding area. Wind environment as one of external factor can influence green area cooling effect to surrounding area. SVF can become one of method to explain vegetation/building parameter, which can used to decide better vegetation type to plant in green area, especially in human pathway.
