Economic globalization, consumer demand for diversification, and the rapid development of information technology have caused enterprises to integrate business systems to improve supply chain operations and provide quick market response. However, whether environmental uncertainty and the degree of process innovation have moderating effects on business systems leveraging to supply chain performance has become an important research issue. This study took business systems leveraging as the subject to explore the impact of organizational and inter-organizational factors on companies leveraging their business systems and the effect of business systems leveraging. 204 valid responses were collected from both online and paper questionnaires. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and the structural equation model (SEM) were adopted for data analysis. The results showed that proactive technological orientation, system openness, supply chain member pressure and transaction climate positively encouraged a company to combine its business system with others. However, the interconnectedness within the organization had no significant effect. Both business systems leveraging and information sharing had a positive impact on supply chain performance. In addition, in situations with higher demand and supply uncertainty, the impact of business systems leveraging to supply chain performance was found to be lower; while process innovation positively moderated the relationship between business systems leveraging and supply chain performance. This study suggested that companies should actively update their technology and maintain good relationships with supply chain partners. By doing so, they can promote business systems leveraging and enhance supply chain performance. Furthermore, companies should always innovate all aspects of business processes in order to enhance the positive effects of business systems leveraging on supply chain performance.
