This thesis explores the impact of the CHIPS Act of 2022 on the semiconductor industry, particularly focusing on the stock markets of the United States, China, and Taiwan. The CHIPS Act, introduced to address national security concerns and reduce reliance on foreign semiconductor supply, allocated significant funding towards domestic semiconductor manufacturing. The thesis discusses various events related to the CHIPS Act, such as legislative milestones, implementation strategies, and regulatory measures. Additionally, it examines the implications of the Act on market reactions, stock prices, and industry dynamics. The study employs econometric analyses, event study models, and propensity score matching methods to evaluate the effects of the CHIPS Act on the semiconductor sector. Furthermore, it discusses the broader geopolitical context, including U.S.-China relations, strategic competition policies, and efforts to reshape the global semiconductor supply chain.
