    • 近年來，由於網際網路之蓬勃發展，促使3C整合新興資訊家電(Information Appliance ，IA)產品，如：智慧型手持裝置(Smart Handheld Device)、網路電視(Net TV)、上網機（Web pad）、機上盒（Set-Top Box）、上網遊戲機（Game Console）、智慧型電話（Smart Phone）及超級電話（Super Phone）等產品紛紛問世，隨著後PC時代的來臨，整個PC產業勢必轉移到資訊家電(IA) 產業上，然而IA產品的價值不再是單一的硬體，而是必須搭配多媒體多元化服務的內容，因此必須仰賴多媒體整合來提昇IA產品的附加價值，以強化競爭力。
    電腦軟硬體設備的進步與多媒體技術的蓬勃發展，使得多媒體應用成為當前非常熱門的領域，而有鑒於多媒體資料包括影像、視訊、音訊、動畫等，包含了有多種的特性與資訊，如何有效率的檢索多媒體資料是一個重要的研究課題，隨多媒體工業技術的成長與成熟、網際網頁對多媒體影像的大量使用，為提高媒體資訊應用的效能，影音分類檢索成了不可或缺的工具。
    影音分類檢索技術最大的用途主要是想解決網路上日益增加的多媒體資料查詢問題，一如現在網路搜尋引擎可以在浩瀚的網路世界裡，以text-based來搜尋想要的資料。我們希望在未來的網路世界，能配合影像、圖形、聲音轉而開發更具智慧、以content-based為主的多媒體搜尋技術。

    In these few years, as a result of internet growing mature, the integrated 3C Information Appliances (IAs) have become available in the market such as smart handheld device, net TV, web pad, set-top box, game console, smart phone, super phone and so on. Besides, the usage of Personal Computer (PC) has become a critical tool in our life. Hence, we can boldly forecast that the whole PC industry will be bound to transfer to IA application. Nevertheless, the IA application is not only a simple hardware, but has to collocate with diversification of multimedia. In order to achieve this goal, we have to rely on addition-valued of integrated multimedia application to enhance competitiveness.
    As a result of rising and flourishing of PC industry, multimedia has become a popular domain. Because of various data formats of multimedia, it turns into an important research topic to find out the correct results effectively. This kind of usage could improve the efficiency of multimedia application, especially in Internet.
    The purpose of data searching is to find out the correct results in the environment with large of data, suchlike text-based searching in Internet. We expect that the searching technique can achieve not only text form, but also the other data formats such as image, figure, audio and video.
