Molds are one of the popular techniques in the manufacturing industry. As an increasing number of firms pursue product quality, higher precision of molds is required. The machines that are able to produce molds with higher precision are also more expensive. Whether a supplier of molds shall invest in precision mold technique is a tough decision. If a supplier of molds does not invest in precision mold techniques, it will not be able to attract customers with the need of precision molds and expand its market. If the supplier invests in precision mold technique, it may be able to attract orders with premium price and obtain high profit, although the investment cost is high.
The analysis reveals that if the customer’s request of quality level is high, the supplier can get better price and more profit under the condition that it has production capability to meet the customer’s need. Even if this supplier is a new comer in the industry, it can take advantage of high precision mold technique and gain profit when competing with other suppliers.
