在研究荷蘭十七世紀靜物畫裡的中國瓷器時，很容易被本文主題——威廉．卡爾夫〈靜物與中國碗，鸚鵡螺杯和其他物件〉的八仙蓋碗，及碗外壁裝飾的立體人偶所吸引。在當今存世的中國古瓷之中，這類實用器形很難見到如此立體的人偶裝飾。當我們想更進一步了解的時候，便會開始思考這件畫中瓷器是作者臆造或真實存在、製作工藝以及人偶形象所指為何。
〈靜物與中國碗，鸚鵡螺杯和其他物件〉是荷蘭大航海時期靜物畫的代表作之一，時至今日同類型的瓷器仍可見之於歐美博物館與私人收藏，可因此獲知確實存在同類型瓷器，且普遍將碗上人偶定義為八仙，與此畫中同類型的八仙蓋碗也多次出現在其他畫作之中，可見這件蓋碗在當時獲得相當程度的喜愛。本文以八仙蓋碗為起點，檢視時代背景與瓷器貿易概況，並比對相關畫作、現存文物以及文獻，為讀者呈現出理解十七世紀畫中瓷器的脈絡。

When studying Chinese porcelain depicted in seventeenth century still life paintings, one is easily drawn to the Eight Immortals covered bowl featured in Willem Kalf’s Still Life with Chinese Bowl, Nautilus Cup, and Other Objects, particularly the three-dimensional figurines adorning the bowl’s exterior. Such relief figures are rarely seen on functional Chinese porcelain that has survived to the present day. This prompts questions about whether the depicted object was real or imagined, how it was made, and whom the figures represent.
Kalf’s painting is a representative work of Dutch still life from the Age of Exploration, and extant examples of similar bowls can still be found in European and American museums and private collections. These confirm that such objects did exist, and the figures on the bowl are generally identified as the Eight Immortals. Similar bowls appear in multiple other paintings, indicating their popularity at the time.
This article uses the Eight Immortals covered bowl as a point of departure to examine the historical context and porcelain trade of the period. Through comparisons with related artworks, extant artifacts, and documentary sources, it aims to present a clearer understanding of the context in which Chinese porcelain appeared in seventeenth-century still life painting.
