This research examined the influence of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation toward individual investment performance through knowledge-sharing behaviors by individual investor in online stock trader communities in Indonesia. In total 13 hypotheses have been tested using survey data collecting from 307 individual investors who are doing online stock trading in Indonesia.
We found that motives for trading profit, monetary reward, reputation feedback and altruism have positively influenced individual investment performance via knowledge-sharing behavior, while motives of reciprocity and self-efficacy has shown no significant influence.
We also tested moderating effect by self-competition on trading profit – knowledge-sharing behavior relation. In addition, we have tested the effect of different level of self-competition as moderator on the mediation relationship between trading profit and individual investment performance by knowledge-sharing behavior. The result showing no significant moderating relationship by self-competition.
