有機發光二極體(Organic Light-Emitting Diode,簡稱OLED)的研究,目前已達到實用與量產的階段,並成功大量使用於平面顯示器,如手機面板及MP3播放器面板等。因OLED具自發光、製程簡單、成本相對較低的特性,若是使其發出偏極化光,將可直接應用在液晶顯示器當作背光源,取代目前之液晶顯示器背光模組。再者,由於欲減少環境光的反射,在面板表面需貼一偏振片,以提高面板的對比,可發極化光的OLED,可大幅提高面板亮度,具有很大的商業價值。
本論文使用液晶顯示器之配向技術為基礎,應用在有機發光二極體,使其可發出偏極化光。研究重點為以聚醯亞胺(Polyimide,簡稱PI)為配向層,且以polyfluorene(PF)為發光層之結構,探討其所發出光之偏振比,而目前實驗所得最高偏振比為7.38;另外,本論文中之研究也發現相關文獻中未曾探討的現象,即旋轉塗佈上發光層之轉速以及元件驅動之定電流分別與偏振比的關係。
Organic light emitting diodes (OLED) have been successfully applied to displays such as mobile phones and MP3 players. They have the advantages of low power consumption and simple fabrication process. The devices with oriented light emitting molecules could irradiate polarized emission, which can act as the backlight module for liquid crystal displays in commercial application.
In this essay, we use technology of alignment of LCD to produce OLED which emits polarized light. The main point in this research is about the structure which is made of polyimide as alignment layer to align polyfluorene emitting layer. We hope to find out and discuss the dichroic ratio of the light emitted from this structure and so far the highest dichroic ratio is 7.38. Also, viewpoints and statements in the essay demonstrate the relation between dichroic ratio and rotary speed of spin-coated emitting layer and the relation between dichroic ratio and driving current. These results have not been discussed in the related papers.
