In golf club head design,it is important to make the head oversize because of ease of hitting and better inertial properties to increase sweet spot size that make the golfer can drive the ball farther and straighter. In order to achieve above all,it is necessary for club head design to be light weight and high strength. Most titanium alloys possess the same strength as common grades of stainless steel, but are 40% less dense (the weight per volume area).
The mechanical properties of Ti-XAl-YMo and Ti-XAl-YMo-ZBi alloys fabricated by investment-casting and three different thickness reductions of hot rolling were investigated individually. The Al content ranged from 5% to 8 mass% and the Mo content was Y mass%.Then Bi content was Z mass%.
Experimental results indicated that the addition of Al content over 6% could improve tensile strength largely but ductility decreased. And the addition of Bi could improve tensile strength and decrease ductility slightly.Ti-8Al-YMo fabricated by investment-casting and hot rolling revealed the best tensile property.
