Nowadays, Taiwan has entered an aging society, with the population of longevity increasing year by year, it is common for the elderly to live alone or only two of them live at home. Due to the deterioration of physiological functions, most of the elderly may not be able to operate the current communication equipment, such as mobile phone or local phone. Besides, people who live at home for a long time would be more eager to talk to the outside world, no matter family, relatives, or friends. What is more, they can also seek help from the outside world through specific buttons when danger occurs.
The aim of “Development a Communication Aided System” developed by this institute mainly is to help the elderly. Considering that the memory of the elderly will decline, it is not easy to remember the phone number, so the user interface is designed to includes the dial button 1 to 4. Each button allows users to place photos and assists them in identifying in a graphical manner. The user can set the phone number to be contacted through the APP or by using a specific format text message. After writing the temporary storage function into the MCU, the buttons 1 to 4 can store a set of corresponding numbers. When the setting is completed, only the button number 1 to 4 needs to be pressed to realize the dailing number. Plus, SIM card and phone line can be inserted, and then it is classified into three modes according to the functions, provides three modes that can be switched, namely Local mode, SIM mode, and Mobile mode.
Under the mobile mode, the elderly who already has a mobile phone but cannot operate normally only needs to bring their phone close to the auxiliary device, and then just press the button of the interface to make the phone call. In SIM mode, users only need to insert the SIM, and the card system becomes a simple mobile phone that can dial and answer calls. Finally, as the telephone line jack is provided already in the Local mode, so, users only need to connect the telephone line, and the device will then become a simple local telephone.
With the identification of the incoming call number, the incoming call will be judged according to the originally set buttons. At this time, the button will flash to let the user know whether it is a call from a relative or friend. Taking into account that the elderly will have hearing loss problems, a hands-free system is added to the device. Also, users can adjust the call volume and the ringtone size according to their needs and preferences.
After that, it is considered to expand the user group to all ages, and further add more practical functions. By calculating the user preferences and further improving the system, it will be more convenient and user-friendly. For example, if it is applied in a hospital ward, increasing the button of this device to 10 or 20, the call assistance of the ward will then be implemented. Afterward, it can also be combined with the AI system that is very intensive nowadays, to create a physiological signal sensing system, and then further combine with the most intensive intelligent speakers today. In the future, as long as the detected signal appears an alarm, it can directly dial the phone number that was internally set.
