Kaohsiung City is the third largest city in Taiwan, which has a high diversity in urban form and public transportation. Although it has the second largest MRT in Taiwan, it still suffers from the problem of too many private vehicle users. To find out whether city form cause this problem, travel satisfaction is introduced. Through travel satisfaction, people’s travel behaviors can be predicted and what kind of city form is better for public transit can be confirm. Built environment and urban form are important factors that can affect travel satisfaction. However, little research has been conducted on the relationships between urban form, travel behavior, and travel satisfaction.
This study collects and uses data from Kaohsiung City, which choose travel mode dissonance and built environment as mediators to construct model that can explain how urban form affect travel satisfaction. After path analyze, conclusions can be made as follows: (1) indirect effects of urban form on travel satisfaction are insignificant; (2) effect of travel mode dissonance on travel satisfaction are negative and significant; (3) travel mode dissonance and built environment don’t mediate the relationship between urban form and travel satisfaction. The results are different than the research before and this study consider the main reason is the difference between compact area and sprawl area in Kaohsiung is too small which caused by too many private modes users and mixed land-use. Therefore, this research proposes some advice as follows: (1) reinforce public transit facility and humanity-oriented transportation environment in compact area; (2) increase land-use intensity of development near public transit station; (3) advocate humanity-oriented transportation.
