有關母體總數估計的研究已有一段很長的歷史, 亦已廣為應用。Chao,Lee and Jeng(1992) 利用樣本涵蓋率(sample coverage)和無母數的方法, 結合對於模式在時間不同捕取率(Mt) 和動物個體不同捕取率(Mh) 下, 即Mth提出母體總數的估計量。(Sanjib Basu and Nader Ebrahimi,2001) 對於模式Mh做更進一步推廣, 也就是假設有R 種不同發現率。因此我們結合此兩篇論文的精神與方法來研究母體總數之估計。假設在模式為時間不同捕取率和已分層的個體不均捕取率下, 用樣本涵蓋率的概念來進行推估,再利用動差法推得母體總數N 的估計式。同時也在模擬研究中證實, 當分層的資料太過於凌亂時, 則喪失分層之必要性。因此在分層不均勻母體下, 我們所提分層的估計量有較佳的表現。
