Under the influence of modern industrialized society, more pressure around our lives. From 2019, COVID-19 disrupts the rhythm of daily life, increasing negative emotions, declining positive emotions and life satisfaction in the overall society. In the author’s daily observation, the social environment is not conducive to express negative emotions. Many people do not convey their own emotions to others. Sigmund Freud believed that suppressing emotions is a significant cause of mental illness. Consequently, the purpose of this thesis is to increase the experiencer's concern for negative emotions.
The Secret Garden series of this thesis translates the characteristics of the negative emotions by interactive lighting installations, which are scared, anxious and sorrowful. Increasing the audience's participation through interaction; the extensibility of light enhances the immersion of the experience. Its functions by Arduino Nano and different sensors, creating those emotional atmospheres. When experiencing, the author feels comfort and moving like be accompanied and comprehended. Achieve artistic self-healing effect.
Finally, there is an enormous impact around our life under the modern society and COVID-19. Human emotional regulation and spiritual healing are still vital topics. The artworks of negative emotions may possibly enhance audiences’ discussion of emotions. However, it requires long-term education and more resources to understand negative emotions, increase empathy, and create a friendly social environment for negative emotions.
