This study investigated the mental effects of the drivers when using in-vehicle navigation systems. The focal point is the degree of the psychological stress in the research. Qualitative and quantitative studies were adopted to administ the study. The samples of the first questionnaire are general drivers and this result was used in factor analysis to get four facts which effect drivers’ psychological stress. The four facts are the basis to exploratory interviews. The results of the interviews were induced to develop the questions of the second questionnaire and received the affiliated results. The results can be used to improve the in-vehicle navigation and be the criterions when choosing by consumers. The forming process of the questionary and the questionary which has reliability and validity can be the application to design in the future. They can help designer to discover potential questions with less time and cost. The designers can also make another questionaries by the framework.
