過去平面鐵路的建設，促進城市間的連結也帶動了當地發展，但因都市快速擴張，使沿用至今的平面鐵路系統產生環境污染、交通安全、都市發展屏障…… 等當代都市問題。

近年來在舊城市面臨都市更新的討論中，「都市縫合」的課題也逐漸躍上檯面，而臺灣目前應對「都市縫合」的鐵路立體化方案，已陸續於一線城市中開始執行，但面臨相同問題的二線城市核心市區，往往卻因費用高、效益低……等因素，造成立體化方案難以施行。

然而「都市縫合」的目的是為了解決鐵路所造成的當代都市問題，抹去人們對於鐵路沿線是「都市死角」的既定印象，使人與活動回到鐵道周邊。因此本研究希望透過都市設計的角度，選定新竹市舊城區中新竹火車站站區作為此研究之對象，藉由「景觀都市主義」的概念為規劃主軸，將老舊鐵路系統面臨更新時分，化為提升舊城區綠地公園與開放公共空間的契機，提出以人為本的新竹火車站站區之都市縫合策略。

本研究透過文獻蒐集與彙整，檢視新竹市都市發展脈絡與相關發展計畫，並藉由新竹火車站站區的調查與分析，了解其都市環境發展現況與各項周邊資源，而後點出目前新竹火車站與周邊環境所面臨之課題。並利用先進國家面對「都市縫合」課題之案例，歸納出可有效改善問題之設計策略作為參考依據。提出新竹火車站及鐵路周邊都市更新之都市設計構想，並將其構想延伸為符合當代新竹都市需求之站區整體規劃設計策略。

經由都市設計的角度討論「都市縫合」議題，並針對新竹火車站站區實際操作都市更新提案，期望提升當代都市的生活品質與環境品質，並提供尚未進行車站與軌道系統更新之二、三線城市一個「都市縫合」的新契機。

In the past, the construction of surface railways promoted the connection between cities and brought development to the local area. The rapid expansion of cities has led to many contemporary urban problems, such as environmental pollution, traffic safety, urban development obstacles, etc., but the ground rail system is still used today. Therefore, in the discussion of urban renewal facing the old urban district, the topic of "urban stitching" has begun to emerge.

The purpose of "urban stitching" is to solve contemporary urban problems brought about by railways, to eliminate people's stereotype that railways are "urban dead ends", and to return people and their activities to the surrounding areas of railways. Therefore, this study hopes to select the Hsinchu Railway Station area in the old urban district of Hsinchu City. From the perspective of urban design, the renewal of the old railway system is transformed into an opportunity to improve the green parks and public spaces in the old urban district. Taking "Landscape Urbanism" as the research object, put forward a people-oriented urban stitching strategy at Hsinchu Station.
