Crowdfunding has been growing dramatically after the Global Financial Crisis as a novel alternative of entrepreneurial finance when the other capital sources dry up. This study examines the influence of economic policy uncertainty on the success possibility of crowdfunding projects by adopting the Economic Policy Uncertainty (EPU) Index created by Baker, Bloom, and Davis (2016). We document that EPU is positively linked to the crowdfunding success and it exhibits a less pronounced impact on projects with the funding goal of USD5000 and above. We further find out that Design and Technology projects are likely to experience lower success rate than the other projects when policy uncertainty level is high. It is also discovered that more visually appealing project description and higher number of comments enhance the favorable influence of EPU on the outcomes of crowdfunding. Despite the positive relationship with crowdfunding success, EPU exerts a negative impact on the overfunding level. Our research centers on reward-based crowdfunding platform, indicating the significance of macroeconomic elements as predictors of crowdfunding success.
