自從第一次石油危機造成油價飆漲後，全球經濟陷入衰退的困境，人們開始關心油價是否會影響經濟成長。國外不乏探討油價對總體經濟變數的影響，甚至細究油價波動與國家就業狀況之間的關係。反觀國內文獻會發現，鮮少人分析關於油價和臺灣失業率的議題，抑或實證結果不顯著，因此猜測，如果依不同波動的因素將油價進行分解，是否能得到不一樣的結論。
因此，我們將透過遞迴式向量自我迴歸 (recursive VAR)，又稱半結構式向量自我迴歸 (semi-structural VAR)，認定原油供給衝擊、總需求衝擊以及原油特定需求衝擊，試圖釐清外生的結構性衝擊對臺灣失業率是否有影響。接著，將認定出來的結構性衝擊分解成上升衝擊以及下降衝擊，進一步檢查是否有不對稱的情況發生。

Since the 1973 oil crisis caused oil prices to soar, the global economy had fallen into recession. People were beginning to care if oil prices would have an impact on economic growth. Much foreign research has confirmed oil prices will affect not only the growth of GDP, but also the unemployment rate of a country. There is a lack of research which explores the effect of oil prices on the unemployment rate in Taiwan. Moreover, the scholars who have discussed the relationship between them have different views.
In order to analyze the effect of the exogenous structural shocks on unemployment rate of Taiwan, we will define crude oil supply shocks, aggregate demand shocks and crude oil specific-demand shocks with a recursive VAR model. Then, we divide the three structural shocks into the rising shocks and the falling shocks, respectively. Last but not least, we will check if there is an asymmetry in the response of unemployment rate of Taiwan to positive and negative shocks.
