本研究旨在探討自治政體對慢性精神病患復健的影響，以做為推展慢性精神病患復健模式之參考。方法採計量、介入研究法，以問卷調查蒐集復健園區實施自治政體前後，有關居民生活滿意度調查、自尊程度、及醫療團隊成員評估。本研究之問卷經項目、信度、效度分析後始訂定問卷，以本園區180名居民為樣本，資料經SPSS/PC＋之電腦軟體處理，結果摘述如下：

(一)、實施自治政體組居民之基本特性男性59人女性60人比例相同，年齡集中在40-59歲間，其教育程度以高中職居多佔35.5﹪，其次在國小程度以下佔31.1﹪；未實施組女性56人，其年齡亦集中在40-59歲為多數，教育程度在未實施組中國小以下程度居多。整體來說：居民對生活在祥和復健園區的生活滿意度在中等程度以上。

(二)、實施自治政體與未實施居民對生活滿意度皆在中等至中上程度間，二者沒有顯著差異。實施組在生活滿意度中滿意度最高為「生活環境」;未實施組在生活滿意度中滿意度最高為：「工作人員之關心」。實施自治政體者因為自治方案的介入，讓居民感受到生活環境的重要性，而其關心的層面較廣;未實施組居民主要的支持及關心點為工作人員，故感受到工作人員的關心較高。

(三)、實施組與未實施組居民在自尊量表上雖無統計顯著差異，但實施組居民的自尊比未實施組稍高。這個結果可能導因於實施組的居民因自治方案的運作，居民擔任幹部、或執行工作、協助籌畫舉辦活動等，為居民帶來成就感，也讓其感受到賦予權力、尊重、自我價值的提昇。

(四)、在未實施自治政體前男女居民在生活滿意度均無顯著差異; 在實施自治政體之後男性居民比女性在行的自主方面之生活滿意度較高。由此可知因為自治政體的運作讓居民在「行的自主」之滿意度有顯著的提昇，且男性表現出比女性更高的滿意度。

(五)、「教育程度」對整體生活滿意度有顯著影響，居民教育程度為國小以下者的生活滿意度最高，而大專以上程度者生活滿意度最低，顯示教育程度越高者，其對周遭之需求較高，相對地對於目前的生活滿意度也較低。

(六)、實施組男性居民比實施組女性在「我覺得人們若真正瞭解我可能會不喜歡我」的分數高顯示男性較為「擔心別人若瞭解我可能會不喜歡我」，可能在人際互動過程中造成障礙。在「我覺得我比別人承受到更多的欺負不公平的對待」中，以20-29歲居民的表達最多。另外居民呈現出的「低自尊的自我形象」這個不會令人意外的發現使得如何幫助這群大多數已邁進人生中年階級，而要面對終老於祥和園區的慢性精神病人建立較高的自尊問題，讓他們有較高的自尊、面對自己在祥和復健園區活得自在安然，確實是我們專業人員上需要努力的地方。

(七)、自治代表會如同一高功能之團體心理治療團體，內含自治代表6名，列席者資深醫療同仁兩名，擔任觀察者及會後解說，進行方式以居民為中心、主席由自治代表來擔任，醫療同仁在旁協助、以提供現實、安全為原則，但不代為決定。自治代表會和其主席對現實情境之覺知、判斷仍有不足，並非全可放任不理的。
