摘　要

　　「新世紀音樂」(New Age Music) 或稱「新時代音樂」的起源，可追溯到1973年，於舊金山的一場音樂聚會，是一種新的音樂類別。當年與會的作曲家發現他們都不約而同的創作同一類型的音樂，並奉行著新世紀運動 (New age Movement，或稱新時代運動) 的生活理念，由於這些作曲家的作品不同於流行或古典音樂，因此有人稱之為 “New Age”。New Age指約於1960年代在歐美各國開始不約而同萌芽的心靈啟蒙活動，本研究發現新世紀音樂 (或稱「新時代音樂」) 和新時代運動 (New age movement) 有密切的關係，並且具有後現代的特徵。
本論文，第一章探討了新世紀音樂的起源，歸納出新世紀音樂的種類、精神與理念，並採訪了臺灣的音樂工作者，了解新世紀音樂在臺灣的近況。第二章以音樂美學的多面向，亦即從社會、心理與音樂型態的角度來探究新世紀音樂美學的元素，當中也包含了東、西方音樂美學思想的探索。第三章分別從音樂的形式、內容和表現，進行了音樂美學之音樂要素的探析。第四章節探討了音樂美學的實踐，亦即新世紀音樂在音樂療法、電影與廣告配樂以及在新時代運動與瑜伽的應用。
對現今社會而言，新世紀音樂成功的發揮了音樂的價值與功能，希冀藉由本文的探究、分析和歸納，讓新世紀音樂美學的內涵更為具體且得以延續。

SUMMARY

New age music is a genre of music intended to create inspiration and relaxation. It is used by listeners for meditation, stress management and yoga. New age music is closely related to the new age movement and includes various musical styles and trends.

In this thesis, Chapter One introduces the brief history, characteristics, and spirit of new age music. Chapter Two explores the musical aesthetics using music sociology and music psychology. Furthermore, it discusses the spirit of musical aesthetics from the viewpoint of East and West. New age music comes from the West, but it contains much aesthetic thought from the East. Chapter Three explores the form and content of new age music, and it also analyzes the musical elements of new age music. Chapter Four discusses the function and analyzes the practical applications of the musical aesthetic of new age music, such as music therapy, advertising music and film scoring, and background music for meditation or yoga.

New age music encourages personal empowerment, earth connectedness, space consciousness, and interpersonal awareness. Furthermore, it offers the values and functions of music, which enrich our spirit and enhance our life standard.
