《帕克》（Puck）雜誌是美國第一本每週出版彩色圖畫的政治諷刺雜誌，它創刊於1877年並於1918年停刊。《帕克》雜誌在每一期出版了三幅全版彩色的政治漫畫，其內容多為抨擊政黨政治的腐敗與諷刺政治家們。本文旨在運用《帕克》雜誌中的政治漫畫作為材料，並以美國政治圈中最重要的大事件，即四年一次的總統大選作為主軸，分析《帕克》雜誌透過政治漫畫，將所欲「言」寄予「圖」中，並傳達特定政治立場給讀者。政治漫畫的繪製構想都來自真實的政治事件，漫畫家運用畫筆將繁複的政治事件轉化成圖像之際並非無心計，而是企圖引導美國選民在投票日能對《帕克》雜誌所支持的候選人投下選票。
本文選定1880年、1884年、1888年以及1892年這四屆的總統大選作為論述核心。綜觀這四屆總統大選中，共和黨與民主黨提名的總統候選人往往是《帕克》雜誌攻擊的對象，該位候選人的品德、從政經驗，甚至涉入醜聞等，都給予漫畫家豐富的題材得以發揮。《帕克》雜誌厭惡總統一職淪為兩大政黨鬥爭的產物，希冀國家最高領導人的施政，應當將國家與人民的利益放在首位。除了總統候選人是政治漫畫的主要諷刺對象外，《帕克》雜誌也在歷屆總統大選中，將關稅這個燙手山芋般的議題，巧妙地運用政治漫畫，強烈表達對於高關稅的厭惡。綜觀身為傳播媒體的《帕克》雜誌，其刊載的政治漫畫都具備強烈的政治批判意識，使《帕克》雜誌成為反映十九世紀後期美國政治發展的一面鏡子。

Puck magazine, established in 1877 and ceased publication in 1918, is the first colored political satire magazine in the United States. Each issue of Puck magazine featured three full-page colored political cartoons, which primarily critiqued corruption in party politics and satirized politicians. This dissertation aims to analyze the impact of Puck magazine's political cartoons on political events, particularly in presidential elections. Focusing on the elections of 1880, 1884, 1888, and 1892, this study illustrates how Puck magazine attempted to sway American voters toward candidates endorsed by the cartoons. Besides targeting presidential candidates, Puck magazine effectively utilized political cartoons to criticize high tariffs, highlighting them as contentious issues. The cartoons in Puck magazine reflected American politics in the late nineteenth century.
