建築史與設計為學習建築的兩大基石，可互為工具，彼此理解發想。藉由對建築史的認識而建立觀點，形成設計；同時也在操作設計的過程中體驗建築史。本論文研究取「觀」的哲學與「觀場」的類型概念為工具，重塑成功大學歷史性入口：「窮理致知」場域。希望透過建築史，建立「建築可觀性」、「都市公共呈現」的相關觀點，並透過建築及都市設計議題再度詮釋展現。

本論文共有四個部分：
一. 初觀：首章以建築史與都市史發展為藍本，從字源學與社會呈現詮釋「觀」的哲學與「觀場」的內涵。
二. 上古內蘊：第二章研究「觀」之於古代希臘羅馬的意義，以及上古社會發展的觀場原型。章末則以上古社會場域原型為工具，進行初步佈局的發想。
三. 天上人間：第三章討論基督教文明自以神為崇、人文主義到巴洛克時代的奇觀文化演進。同時探討如何從對一個理想國的追尋，落實到都市人間的過程。
四. 由觀而成：末章，為最終設計定案的整體呈現。

建築設計涉及本質及工具，而建築史實為一表達觀點的解釋系統。本論文即是將藉由經驗建築史知識所得之洞見作為操作設計之工具。透過此設計與建築史的互動過程，將過去普遍的建築史題材賦予新的價值。同時，希望藉由此工具，將設計中本質性的素材，賦予新的形式與生命。

Architectural History and Design are two bases for the studies of architecture; one will utilize, assimilate, and illuminate the other mutually. Viewpoints of design can be enhanced through the understanding of architectural history. Architectural history, at the same time, could be broadened via design process. In the campus of NCKU, there is a vacant corner beside the historical main college entrance: CION-LI-ZH-ZH TRIUMPH. Concepts of spectacle and temenos, as design tools, are engaged to reform NCKU historical college entry.

This thesis contains four chapters:
1. The Initial Thea: The first chapter is to use the architectural history and urban development as the axis, and the viewpoints of thea and the spectacle will be elaborated etymologically and socially.
2. The Ancient Time Has Borne: The second chapter is to study the significances of thea of classical Greece and Rome, and the archetypes of spectacle that ancient times have developed. At the end of the chapter, the inspiration of parti will initiate with the archetypes of social fields.
3. The Heavenly Earth: The third chapter will discuss the progress of the spectacle cultures from the God-reverence era, the Humanism, down to the Age of Baroque. The discussion will also scrutinise the process of how human beings practise as well as apply the quest of Utopia to the earthly urban area.
4. Completion via Spectacle: The final chapter is the presentation of the ultimate case of design as a whole.

Architectural design involves both its essence as well as its tools, and the architectural history is an explanatory system which can express its viewpoint. This paper is to use the collected insights as the vehicle of design via experiencing the knowledge of architectural history. With the interaction between design and architectural history, the innovative value shall be built up to the general architectural history materials. This thesis, hopefully, can ventilate fresh air of style and life into the essential materials in design.
