Scholars have proposed different hypotheses, including exploring why and how self-perception of aging (SPA) affects physical, mental and social health. The purpose of the study was to explore the correlation between the self-perception of aging, healthy lifestyles, physical, mental and social health among Mid-Aged and Older Adults Living in the Community in Taiwan. The study sample consisted of 500 mid-aged and older adults who were conveniently sampled in one city of southern Taiwan. The instruments were used included Aging-related Cognitions Scale, Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors Questionnaire, Self-rated health and WHO-5 well-being index. The data collected from the samples were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Pearson’s product-moment correlation and linear regression analysis. The results showed that there were both positive and negative self-perception of aging among individuals, and the score of positive self-perception of aging was greater than negative SPA. SPA was correlated with self-rated health, quality of life, depression, and frequency of going out. After controlling for sociodemographic variables and performing regression analysis, it was found that SPA was significantly associated with quality of life, self-rated health, self-rated pain and depression. The results found that SPA is related to physical, mental and social health. It is hoped that through this research, we can understand the SPA of elderly people in Taiwan, as well as the relationship between SPA, healthy lifestyle and health status. Also, through the results to publicize the benefits of positive SPA to the public, it is hoped that elderly people in Taiwan can achieve a positive aging process and successful aging.
